Junior Netball
Developing a good junior netball club structure with links to schools is key to improving the quality of netball played in the long term by all age groups.
As a rural County with a small population we need as many people playing the game at their highest level possible to provide real competition to those athletes and those school teams with ambitions to play regionally or even nationally.
Junior Clubs
The County would like to develop more clubs to cater for those children who don’t have access at the moment, particularly in South Hereford/Herefordshire and Ledbury/Bromyard. Please get in touch if you want more information!
The County has three England netball CAPS accredited clubs catering for juniors. Westside, Leominster Junior and Hereford Junior netball club. These clubs are thriving with numbers near their limit. And although the clubs are primarily for enjoyment it is noticeable that those children who belong to a club are developing better skills and often succeed in the academy structure.
County Academy
The Herefordshire Netball Under-13 County Academy serves as a crucial starting point in the development pathway for young, talented netballers across the county. With access to a high standard of coaching, these players receive comprehensive training designed to enhance both their technical skills and overall understanding of the game. The academy focuses on developing core netball skills like passing, shooting, and footwork while also fostering a deeper appreciation of the rules and tactics that underpin competitive play. This foundation ensures that the athletes are well-prepared for progression within the sport.
Schools Competition
Herefordshire County rounds in all age groups take place between September and
December annually, with both the winners and runners up progressing to the Regional
Competition in January. From here, winners and runners up in each age group progress on to the final National competition taking place in March.
County competition is led and organised by our volunteer county schools representative and consists of a round robin tournament. Events are supported by volunteers from the County Netball Association, teachers and young volunteers on the scoring table.
